Did you know that Alpine Archery was the very first bow company to offer a compound bow with a machined-aluminum riser? Alpine did that way back in 1990, and they’ve been a leader in riser technology ever since.

Three years ago, for example, they took riser design yet another leap forward with the introduction of a modular machined-aluminum riser. How It Shoots

Fast, quiet and shock-free best describe the Silverado Ventura, making this a very easy bow to like.

I like the bow’s minimalist wood grip. It’s classy, comfortable and high-tech. It’s all you need, and it easily sidesteps the nagging bulkiness of many wood grips.

The draw cycle of the Silverado Ventura and its Velocitec Cam System is stiff but smooth. Much of the bow’s raw power comes from that cycle. Letoff is gentle and there’s a relatively firm back wall, which contributes significantly to the bow’s inherent shooting consistency.

At the shot, the test Alpine Silverado Ventura proved a wonderfully quiet and shock-free bow, complements of intelligent design, an unusually rigid one-piece riser, parallel limbs, a great cam system and onboard limb dampeners. This bow is quiet and shock-free right out of the box.

Arrow speed with the Silverado Ventura is very good, surpassing many of its direct competitors. Likewise, I found consistent accuracy to be another of its primary traits. I suspect that much of that consistency comes from the bow’s precision-machined riser that is extra stiff and inventive VX limb pockets that go such a long way to guarantee perfect limb alignment.

In addition, it seems to me that the bow’s 35-inch axle-to-axle length also promoted accurate shooting. At my 29-inch draw length, that bow length seems to serve up an almost ideal blend of arrow speed, full-draw comfort, easy tuning and consistent shooting.

Key Features and Benefits

One-Piece Machined Riser

Artful, flowing lines belie a particularly stiff and strong riser. That extra stiffness contributes mightily to the bow’s inherent accuracy and quiet, shock-free ways.

Velocitec Hybrid Cam System

This is a true hybrid eccentric system, meaning it borrows the very best features from both one-cam and two-cam arrangements. To begin with, Velocitec features a cable-payout system that slaves both cams together to nearly eliminate the troublesome timing issues associated with conventional two-cam systems. In addition, the presence of two distinctly different string profiles delivers superb arrow speed, while the consistent radius of the control cam serves up a smooth draw cycle. Draw length is conveniently adjusted with interchangeable cam modules.

VX Limb Pockets

Alpine’s VX Limb Pockets are different. They are essentially a locking, dampening limb pocket system that eliminates all limb-butt movement. Two beefy cross-pocket clamping bolts are used to draw the right and left sides of the pockets together like the jaws of a vise, holding the limbs securely and accurately in place.

Parallel Split Limbs

The Silverado Ventura’s racy split limbs are configured in a nearly parallel configuration. At the shot, the upper limbs rebound more or less upward, while the lower limbs move downward. Those equal-but-opposite actions nearly cancel each other out, contributing appreciably to a quieter and more shock-free shot.

Futuristic Rosewood Grip

This is a wonderful wood grip. It’s sculpted just enough to be consistent, comfortable and very accurate, and yet it’s trim and slim. A medium-wrist configuration is standard on the Silverado Ventura. A low-wrist configuration is also available separately.

Mach 5 Cable Slide

The Alpine Mach 5 Cable Slide on the 2008 Silverado Ventura is one of the toughest, quietest and slipperiest cable slides ever offered. It combines Teflon and rubber in a high-tech composite housing. An activation-cord tie-off for drop-away arrow rests is integrated into the Mach 5 Slide.
