Chapin Outfitters BioLogic Sprayers & Spreaders

From Canada to Mexico, whitetail junkies are obsessed with food plots—and for good reason. Food plots deliver vital nutrients to deer throughout the year, meaning hunters can expect more, bigger and healthier deer on their private tracts.

Chapin Outfitters is meeting the application and spraying needs of food plot addicts. Launched in 2011, Chapin Outfitters is a division of Chapin International, a leader in lawn, garden and construction sprayers worldwide since 1884. Chapin’s introduction of its BioLogic sprayers and spreaders, the result of a partnership with food plot powerhouse Mossy Oak BioLogic, has been met with enthusiasm by consumers. Designed for hard-to-reach plots in challenging terrain, BioLogic sprayers and spreaders provide the ultimate in versatility and durability.

Planting a food plot, especially one in less-than-ideal terrain, is difficult enough. The last thing a grower wants while planting his or her dream plot is to deal with faulty hoses, weak pumps, leaks or other equipment failures. That’s why growers will love Chapin’s BioLogic sprayers and spreaders.

The Chapin BioLogic 15 Gallon ATV Sprayer features a chemical-resistant tank, so fertilizers and weed-killers won’t deteriorate the tank. The manifold—or hose control center—offers easy adaption of high-functioning on/off valves. The heavy-duty lid with attachment cord is also flawless in design. Once this lid is fastened, the chemical inside the tank is contained. In addition, the tank utilizes a 2.2 GPM Everflo pump to effectively push the chemical through the hoses at a controlled rate. And with these pumps the name “Everflo” says it all. Season after season these reliable pumps will keep the attachment hose full. My family owns and operates a fair-sized farm, and Everflo
pumps have served our purposes for years without fail. The pump’s power source, the molded connectors with alligator clips, runs into the switch housing, which operates like a household light switch. Once the alligator clips are connected to a 12-volt battery, simply use the switch to turn the unit on and off.

Other notable features of the tank are its pressure gauge and Viton 19-inch pistol grip with dripless shutoff. Keeping a watchful eye on the pressure gauge not only provides data about the intensity of your stream but will also tip you off should a pressurization problem arise. As for the pistol grip, it was designed for hours of comfortable use, and the dripless shutoff valve prevents the leaking of harmful chemicals onto your ATV seat or garage floor.

Built with durability in mind, the ATV sprayer was designed for seasons of rugged abuse. Two ratchet straps suck the BioLogic 15 Gallon ATV Sprayer tightly to ATV racks, meaning no bouncing or annoying rattles. Cleanup is simple and easy. For best results, pump several rinses of clean water through the tank, pump, hoses and spray gun.

The Chapin 50 Pound BioLogic Push Broadcast Spreader makes spreading your favorite BioLogic seed easier than ever. This spreader features tough 14-inch pneumatic tires that roll smoothly across any terrain. The screen on the indestructible poly hopper—an ironclad bucket that holds the seed—keeps seed contained and not bouncing out of the top of the hopper. Savvy food plot growers plant just before a rain, which sometimes means a storm can hit while they’re planting. Fortunately, the heavy-duty plastic rain cover on the Push Broadcast Spreader keeps seed dry in rainy weather. The black powder-coated steel frame will never rust or rot.

My favorite feature of the Push Broadcast Spreader is the adjustable seed flow rate which allows for perfect seed distribution every time. I despise watching pricey seed shoot from the bottom of a spreader at a rapid rate, forcing me to push like Carl Lewis to achieve adequate distribution. That’s not a problem with the Push Broadcast Spreader. The stainless-steel levering gauge located just below the padded push grips can be adjusted for a full range of seed distribution density. When the gauge is pushed all the way forward (0 station on the dial), the seed slots in the bottom of the hopper are closed. When the gauge is pulled all the way back (30 station on the dial), the seed slots are completely open. Numbered settings between 0 and 30 station allow for perfect seed control.

Perhaps even more impressive is the BioLogic Seed Calibration Chart located on the backside of the hopper. This handy chart tells you exactly how to set your gauge based on what BioLogic seed is being used, preferred broadcast width and pounds per acre.

Some of my best food plots are off the beaten path—small openings in big lots of timber are where I create my honey-holes. In past years my problem has been effectively getting my equipment to and from these locations. But that’s no longer a problem thanks to the 4 Gallon BioLogic Backpack Sprayer. The padded straps are lightweight and fully adjustable. The spray wand snaps easily into two plastic clips on the back frame for hands-free transport. In addition, the rust-resistant frame acts as a balanced stand when the unit is on the ground and the chemical is being mixed. An internal screen prevents debris from entering the tank when the unit is open, and the internal spray valve offers four different pressure positions for expert control. Located inside the tank, and requiring only a simple hand turn, this black numbered 1-4 dial is a shining example of Chapin’s attention on maximum distribution control.

Like all Chapin products, the Backpack
Sprayer was designed with durability in mind. All seals and gaskets, which commonly wear out with time and exposure to chemicals, are made from Viton. Viton is a fluoroelastomer, well known for its incredible resistance to both heat and aggressive fuels and chemicals. Another feature I found pleasing is the 100-percent leak-proof cover. The last thing I want when toting harmful chemicals on my back is for them to slosh and leak.

The large left/right hand pump makes pressurizing quick, meaning less manual pumping and more spraying. The cone and fan nozzles, located at the end of the spray wand, are adjustable to provide the perfect mist or intense stream. I also found the continuous spray option, which is achieved by depressing the spray handle and pulling the maroon clip back until it locks, to be a very useful feature while spraying.

Food plots are more popular than ever. Turn your shop into a hub for food plot lovers by taking advantage of these products from Chapin Outfitters. For more information, visit chapinoutfitters.com.
