Barnett Crossbows
Blending Tradition and Innovation
By Michaelean Pike
Surviving in the archery industry can be a struggle. New technologies and regulations can leave even the best-run equipment manufacturer behind. Companies that don’t focus on true innovation are constantly playing catch-up.
One company that knows quite a bit about innovation is Barnett Crossbows.
“We’ve been first with a lot of innovations,” Mike Houllis, Barnett co-owner, says. “It’s the innovation and speed of Barnett that has kept us alive and allowed us to become the number one crossbow maker today. We were the first company to break 300 feet per second. We were the first—and still the only—company with a break-action stock. We were the first to market with a patented shoot-through riser that elongates the powerstroke but keeps the crossbow compact, and we were the first company on the market with a crank cocking device and a rope cocking device. This year, we have two new firsts. Barnett is launching the CarbonLite series. The bows in this series feature an ultra-light carbon riser on the front-end. This reduces the weight by 43 percent. We are also launching the Ghost 400, which is the first crossbow with an MSRP under $1,000 to breech the 400 feet-per-second barrier.
“It’s a very exciting time for Barnett, and our commitment to quality and speed for our USA-made products is stronger than ever.”
But Barnett isn’t just about innovation. The company blends its drive for true innovation with a tradition of providing quality, speed and value. This tradition dates back over 50 years to when Bernard Barnett started a small crossbow manufacturing company in the West Midlands in England, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.
